Friday December 9th 2011, a fabulous day climbing Croagh Patrick in County Mayo. As we set out from Westport Plaza hotel heading for Croagh Patrick we caught sight of the summit covered in snow, well it looked that way from the distance. We decided to head out and see how far up the mountain we could get . Sheila myself and Ferdy set off from the car park, the first part was easy enough, no snow down here. It's quite a steep climb up Croagh Patrick right from the start. About half way up you come to the real climb, loose stone and very steep. Up we went, Ferdy and Sheila ahead followed by myself, as can be seen from the photos.
After an hour and 45 mins walking we got to the summit. Waited here for a while as a shower of sleet passed over, we set off on the descent when it cleared. The descent was not as bad as expected and we got to the bottom in good time. Back to the hotel and into the Sauna to get the body back to normal again.
A great day and well worth the effort.
